HOW TO USE SIMPLY SENIORS' GAIT BELT
STEP 1
PUTTING AND BUCKLING THE BELT
Put the belt around the patient's or family member's waist.
Snap the two sides of the plastic buckle together. To secure the buckle, push the "male" side into the "female" side until you hear a snap, then tug on the closed buckle to make sure it's secure
STEP 2
PULL THE END OF THE BELT STRAP
Pull on the strap until the belt is at the proper tightness around the patient's waist, with the bottom of the belt just touching the tops of the hip bones.
You should be able to slide your fingers behind the belt, but not be able to pinch the fabric between your fingers.
STEP 3
USE THE BELT LOOP FOR MORE SECURITY
Tuck the loose strap end into the belt loop for safety reasons. The excess belt strap can be a tripping hazard, so get it out of the way by using the belt loop and if it was necessary tucking it once or more behind the fitted belt.
The belt loop adds an extra layer of security, reducing the chances of the belt becoming loose or shifting during movements.
STEP 4
PREPARE YOU FOR LIFTING THE PATIENT
Lock your hands on the handles of the gait belt. Stand as close as possible to the patient and reach around their chest with your hands.
You can hold the gait belt between your hands and line up your arms with the belt to create friction.
STEP 5
LIFTING THE PATIENT
Put one of your legs between the patient's legs, and the other one just to the side, so you can get very close to them.
Tell the patient you are going to count to 3, and on 3 you are going to stand up and lift them.
Count out loud, β1-2-3.β On β3,β slowly stand up, using your legs to lift the patient.
YOU MUST NOT PULL STRAIGHT UP ON THE BELT BUT USE IT TO HELP DIRECT THE PATIENT FORWARD AND UP ON A DIAGONAL, FORMING A 45ΒΊ ANGLE.

It isn’t just for seniors!
After passing out and my partner having to sprint to catch me before I hit the ground, we realized I needed a way to be lowered safely to the ground. I bought the gait belt for seniors (*ahem* I am 44) and it was perfect. It fits beautifully, it isn’t uncomfortable, and it has handles on both sides so my partner could easily deposit me on the ground when I was feeling faint.

Belt assist very useful item!
We purchased this belt assist my 101 yrs old mother who had surgery on her RH leg. She was walking with a walker before the surgery and during recovery at home she needed help with getting up from the bed, recliner, toilet, wheelchair. The belt having the handles help us support her moving during her recovery for safety. Highly recommend this product.

This is a game changer
I bought this gait belt after my momβs first hospital stay. This gait belt is very easy to use. Because of the various handles and their placement on the belt, it makes it easy to assist whether someone is standing up from a sitting position if you need to help steady them when theyβre walking. As a matter of fact, my mother had it on the one time that she fell And the firefighters used it to help stand her up when they came they said they needed to get one for the rig. This is definitely something you should add to your tool kit if you have a loved one that youβre caring for at home.

Perfect for mom after lumbar spine surgery
This has been our most used tool since mom returned from the acute rehabilitation hospital post spine surgery. In my opinion, she was discharged too early- still needing a lot of assistance and support. Weβve felt safer having this belt. The belt clips and unclips easily. HANDLES ARE EVERYTHING
Transferring my grandfather became increasingly difficult as his illness progressed. Being that I am not a health care professional with a ton of experience in transfers, these handles were SO needed. If you are caretaking for someone who struggles to stand, you need this. For real. It provides security for him and for all of us! I am so glad we had this until he was unable to be transferred any longer.

I bought this to help prevent falls while helping my mother. Iβm familiar with standard gait belts, but I needed a little extra because Mom gets so unsteady in so many different situations. The handles are very helpful, and belt it easy to put on and adjust. It can be a little hard to take off because the clip buckle takes some strength to squeeze. This isnβt necessarily bad, though. It keeps the belt from popping off and keeps Mom from taking it off when she thinks sheβs feeling fine, but she really still needs my help. π
